About Tony

Tony Laubach is an award-winning Meteorologist, a veteran storm chaser, and a talented weather photographer and videographer.

Before coming to AccuWeather, he was the KAKEland Storm Ranger and one of the TV Meteorologists for KAKE-TV in Wichita, Kansas for three years. Prior to that, he was the weekend Meteorologist and the Weather Warrior for WSIL News 3, in Southern Illinois. His TV career began back in Denver where he was the primary storm chaser for KMGH-TV and also served as a part time weather producer. During his time across those stations, he created and produced several storm chasing series and had a hand in several award-winning severe weather programs.

In addition to his in-studio work, Laubach is a well-known, seasoned storm chaser. His weather footage has been seen worldwide on countless news outlets. You may also recognize him from Discovery Channel's "Storm Chasers" where he chased with Tim Samaras as part of Team TWISTEX for the final three seasons of the show. He has also been featured in many other television programs, including several on the National Geographic Channel and other major cable networks. Tony has personally seen and documented more than 300 tornadoes since beginning his storm chasing journey back in 1997, including several twisters during the Super Outbreak of 2011 in the southeast US and the largest tornado ever recorded in 2013 near El Reno, Oklahoma.

Tony was raised in Circleville, Ohio, and went to college in Colorado where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and Technical Communications at Metropolitan State University of Denver, later earning a Master of Science in Professional Media and Media Management at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
